Is there a better seat in Paris than one on a café terrace? Add some rosé or a glass of champagne and watch the world go by. A favorite is Bar de la Croix Rouge, perfectly located just close enough to the Bon Marché and chic boutiques of the 7th to make it the perfect post-spree landing spot. (It's also the one place in Paris where I've bumped into a certain beloved cookbook author and her darling husband.) Last spring, we were favored with perfect weather for savoring a long lunch that bleeds in to Apero Hour, so out came my sketchbook, we ordered another round and let it all soak in.

About This Piece

There is never enough time in Paris, so I bring my sketchbook and paints along to capture those fleeting moments. Whether sketching at a café table or in my hotel room, this is my way of sealing the memory in my mind's eye and keeping it with me. Spring days spent waiting for the cherry blossoms to bloom, people-watching from a seat at my favorite café, a leisurely sun-soaked walk through the Tuileries - all little moments I've captured in my Paris sketchbook and then turned into original watercolors for you to bring home.
