Last fall, I noticed a familiar door about a block or so away from my hotel - the entrance to Julia Child's apartment on the rue de l'Université. I had stumbled upon it a few years before when we stayed at apartment nearby and painted it then. It seemed like fate had brought me back. So I decided to revisit it, painting away in my room at the JK Place. This watercolor is particularly special as it's the only painting in this collection completed in situ in Paris, rather than being inspired by sketches that returned home with me.

About This Piece

There is never enough time in Paris, so I bring my sketchbook and paints along to capture those fleeting moments. Whether sketching at a café table or in my hotel room, this is my way of sealing the memory in my mind's eye and keeping it with me. Spring days spent waiting for the cherry blossoms to bloom, people-watching from a seat at my favorite café, a leisurely sun-soaked walk through the Tuileries - all little moments I've captured in my Paris sketchbook and then turned into original watercolors for you to bring home.
